I know when I think of doom, Miami, Florida is not what comes to mind, but that city is home to Torche, a band that has, in its small handful of recordings over a decade, pushed that label in a different direction. Some of their songs can be described as happy, and while sometimes harkening back to the days of not-heavy metal with major chord progressions and positive lyrics, they're deep and well-crafted. Previews hint that this record is a throwback to their more "brutal" second album, Meanderthal, which is what turned me on to this band back in 2008.
